The connection between the International Leadership Association and the MOL program at Alvernia
The International Leadership Association (ILA) brings together public and private sector leaders, scholars, educators, businesses, consultants and students from many disciplines and nations. Given that this organization is committed to sharing the latest research on leadership from around the world, Alvernia knew the importance in leveraging all of the expertise of the ILA when they created the Masters in Leadership Organization program.
According to the mission of the ILA, the organization strives to:
- Strengthen ties between those who study and those who practice leadership;
- Serve as a forum where people can share ideas, research, and practices about leadership;
- Promote effective and ethical leadership in individuals, groups, organizations, and governments in the global community; and
- Generate and disseminate interdisciplinary research and develop new knowledge and practice.
Every year, the ILA’s conference brings together those dedicated to practicing, researching and teaching leadership. At the 2002 annual ILA Global Conference in Seattle, ILA members began discussing the need to create frameworks and resources for new and developing leadership programs at colleges and universities.
Travis Berger, founder of the Alvernia MOL program has attended the ILA conference in the past and believes the organization, “is critical for advancing the scholarship and practice of leadership. The preeminent minds in the field of leadership gather to share their experiences and research. Our MOL program has benefitted tremendously from the outstanding work of the ILA and its membership. Their guiding principles for developing a leadership program informed the design of the MOL curriculum.”
